Thank God for Growth…Happy Birthday to Me!

I promised myself to always be my true authentic self, no matter how strange or quirky I may seem to other people. I didn’t make that promise until I was much older, later than it should have been. However, when 2022 began, I decided to embrace all of me, my creative multi-passionate self, flaws, and all.

I get it. I fully understand that I am a “multi-passionate creative.” Who knew there was a name for it? Back in the day, I didn’t have a clue! A multi-passionate creative is gifted with more than one talent or calling. Someone who is skilled in multiple areas and excels in each capacity.

“9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;”

First peter 2:9 kjv

I struggled with choosing one passion because I had many. It was frustrating to suppress those other gifts inside because I had multiple. I looked at myself as weird, confused because I could not select one passion or interest. However, being peculiar is a good thing. In my younger years, I would have totally disagreed with that statement.

I’ve heard plenty of negative comments spoken against me and individuals like me who have more than one passion. People say, “Just focus on one thing. Girl, go sit down. You’re doing too much! Will you just pick one?”

My thoughts would always be, “You want me to pick just one? Why?” Then, when I tried to do just one thing, I couldn’t.

As multi-passionate creatives, why should we pick only one? Why should I choose one of my gifts when God has given me many to be used for His glory? I can’t. I don’t. I won’t. I shouldn’t have to, and neither should you. The Creator has called me to share my God-given gifts and passions with His people, especially His daughters. He has appointed me to serve Him, glorify His name and help lift up His kingdom by encouraging and empowering His people.

I am delighted and honored to do just that! In fact, I embrace it! What about you, sis?

After many years, I am finally learning to embrace my multi-passionate self! I love it! Today I’m 52, and I am grateful for all the gifts God has blessed me. I no longer push away my passions and force myself to only choose one. It’s incredibly encouraging to know that it’s ok to have more than one passion.

Multi-Passionate: a word that has become synonymous with “confusion”, “jack of all trades; master of none”. But the truth is Multi-Passionate is a human attribute with a definition. A few years ago, it was coined as a term to describe “An individual who excels at more than one interest and passion’. In the old school terminology, it would fit into the box of being “multi-talented”. (B&FT Online)

The Business & Financial Times

Today is my birthday! In the process of celebrating my special day, I’m embracing and loving my unique, beautiful, and passionate self. And I want you to do the same. Let’s learn to embrace our mistakes and permit them to develop and empower us, personally and professionally. I want to be better than I was yesterday. The only person I should be competing with is myself, no one else. Unfortunately, sometimes we compete with others, focusing on what they are doing instead of looking at what God is doing.

Happy birthday to me! As I celebrate myself, I’m learning every day how to appreciate this wild and unforgettable journey God has graciously blessed me to partake in.

Happy birthday to me! Most importantly, in this season of celebrating myself, I’m learning how to show myself grace, mercy, and love when I mess up. Now that I’m 52 years old and looking back, I realize how hard I have been on myself. Happy birthday to me, and thank God for growth!

Sis, embrace who you are. Be who God says you are. And do EVERYTHING He has called you to do through the strength and love and mighty power of our Savior, Jesus Chris.

Sis, have you made any promises to yourself? What are some things you love about yourself? Are you a multi-passionate creative? Have you tried to select only one of your passions yet find it challenging? Whether you have one or more passions, how are you using your gift(s) to impact others for Christ?

I would love to know your thoughts on this topic. Share them in the comments below.

Now, let’s walk in freedom together!

Your sis,

Rhovonda
