Rhovonda’s Journey: 25

I use to think that when I turned twenty-five years old my life would end. I thought the Lord had allotted me only twenty-five years on this earth. This distorted way of thinking was due to the unexpected death of my mother, who died at 25, and my brother, who died at the same age. I had it fixed in my brain that I, too, would die early and twenty-five was the maximum year I could live. I was under this warped impression that twenty-five were all the years I would receive from the Lord.

In retrospect, I realize it was just another tactic used by the enemy. The enemy wanted me to live my life in fear and fear is how I lived. Some days I woke up thinking this is the day my life ends and some nights I went to bed wondering will I see tomorrow. I allowed the enemy to use fear to control me and to hold me captive. I was blinded by the anxiety of dying. Instead of celebrating and rejoicing that the Lord had blessed me with another day, I lived my life afraid being consumed with worry.

And now, twenty-six years later, I’m still here! I’m still standing and still trust God. The Lord has given me forty-seven years on this earth! Some people do not like telling their age, but I don’t mind. I gladly share it. I understand that I could have been dead and gone a long time ago, but God spared my life!! I could have been six feet under, but God. My life could have ended a long time ago, but will you look at Jesus! It’s a blessing to still be here among the land of the living (as my Granny would say).

I am blessed, truly blessed. I’m nearly fifty-one years old and God has been good to me. The Lord has been with me every step of the way!! Has my life been a bed of roses? Certainly not! Yet, every day with God is sweeter than the day before!! I get excited when I hear someone say, “Look where the Lord has brought me from! Oh, but when I look back over my life…..!”

HALLELUJAH AND AMEN!!

God has been tremendously good to us. He has brought us from a mighty long way! Take a look back over your life, my friend. Really look at where the Lord has brought you from. Look how God has carried you from there to here. You’ve come a long way. Think about where you came from and where you are now. You’ve made it this far! Do you see how God has always been there? Think about where you could have been. Are you thinking about it? Someone may have told you that you wouldn’t make it to see 2021. Oh, but the devil is a liar! Somebody probably spoke death over your life. Maybe friends and loved ones gave up on you. Ah, but look at God! Look at where He’s brought you from! Wow! Praise God!!

Sisters, God has been with us since the beginning. Every step of the way, He’s been faithful! He’s brought us from dangers, seen and unseen. He’s taken us from a mighty, mighty long way!!

Today, let us celebrate our life and journey. Let’s rejoice in the Lord and thank God for His salvation and for His precious mercy. For it is Him who is allowing us to still be here.

14 “Because He loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
    I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble,
    I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
    and show him my salvation.”

(Psalm 91:14-16 NIV)
