Are you listening?

“If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land;  But if you refuse and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken it.” (Is. 1:19-20, AMP)

There are times when I have to speak to my children over and over again about listening. It makes me so upset when I tell them to do something and they disobey me. When I give my children instructions, as a parent, I expect them to listen and then obey……but sometimes, that’s not always the case. Therefore, there are consequences for their actions. It seems, at times, obedience is the area that I’m often scolding them about. I find myself asking the question, Are you listening to me? Did you hear what I said?

I figure, at times, God says the same things to us, Are you listening to Me? Did you hear what I said? Like a parent, God expects us to listen to His voice and obey, but at times we don’t. He wants us to be obedient to every direction He gives. When He tells us to be quiet, then our mouths should be sealed. When He tells us to speak and only say what He tells us to say, then we should speak only His words. When He tells us to go, then we should move quickly without questioning. And when He tells us to stop, we should stand still.

I want to be obedient to the voice of the Lord. I want to obey God. When He calls, I want to come. But at times I plug up my ears and do what I want to do, just like a rebellious child. I know it makes God angry, just like it makes me angry when my children deliberately disobey me. And when I don’t listen, He asks me those same questions.

Are you listening to me? Did you hear what I said?

I realize that we can’t have victory in all areas of our lives, if we’re being disobedient to God. We can’t profess to be triumphant in our battles, if we’re covering up our ears when God is speaking to us. We can’t move pass the level we’re in or pass the test God has given us, if we’re disregarding His instructions.

Sister, you and I can’t be victorious without being obedient to God. Victory comes from obedience.

What are you battling today? Does it feel like you’re losing? Does it seem like the same situation and crisis are happening to you over and over again? Does it feel like you keep failing the same test?

Let’s ask ourselves this question: Am I experiencing difficulties because of my disobedience? Could my situation exist because of I’m rebelling against the Lord?

Let’s do a real survey of our life and honestly answer those questions.

Pray this prayer: Dear great and powerful Lord! We love You and we thank You for Your patience. We want to please You. We know that in pleasing You, we must be obedient to You. Father, help us be submissive children. Give us strength and the wisdom to honor You with our lives. We ask that You would remove fear, timidity, stubbornness, and replace it with love, humility, boldness (through Jesus Christ), and trust in You. We thank You for Your forgiveness, we thank You for changing us, and we thank You for giving us victory! In Jesus name, we pray, amen.

Quiet Time.

Just because

“Let all the earth fear the LORD; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.”     (Psalm 33:8 NASB)

“Let them praise the name of the LORD, For His name alone is exalted; His glory is above earth and heaven.” (Psalm 148:13 NASB)

God is so holy! He’s such an awesome God! Oh, that we would reverence Him as such! I want to be in awe of God every time I think about Him. I want to be in wonder of His greatness each time I think about Him! He’s so incredible!! Just the thought of Him should blow our minds. Just thinking about God, our King, our Savior, our Deliverer, should take our breath away!! I want to be in awe of our great God every day! I want to be in awe of Him! Think about our God who created everything, who took care of everything! Our great God left nothing out when He created everything! Our God took care of all the details before He made us and all He requires from us is to reverence Him. He wants us to honor Him. He wants us to be obedient to Him. He wants us to praise Him and worship Him!

After all He has done, after all that He does, after all He is going to do, we, His creation, should at least reverence His matchless name! What does it mean to reverence our God? It means to respect, show admiration, be in awe, astonishment, and be amazed by Jehovah. That’s the least we can do!

It’s strange to me that all other creation worships God no matter what. They continuously worship Him. The birds worship Him. The animals and sea creatures worship Him. The moon, the sun, the stars, and the trees all praise Jehovah God (Psalm 148). The flowers show forth His glory, but we, God’s prize possessions, those who were made in His own image, don’t praise and worship Him enough. Awful! We, His children, have to have a reason to worship our great and glorious God! It has to be the right time of day, the right season in our lives before we can worship Him. We have to hear our favorite song before we can praise Him. All has to be well in order to give our magnificent God the praise He deserves, let alone worship Him.

Why is that? He’s the Creator! Why do we need to have reasons to praise Him? After all that God has done for us, why does our praises have to be predicated by what is happening around us? Why does your worship have to be based upon how you are feeling? Why is my reverence to God determined by what’s going on around me? Why not praise God just because! Why not honor and worship Jehovah just because He’s Jehovah?

Today, my sister, praise, worship, honor, reverence, magnify, and glorify the Creator just because! I dare you! I double dog dare you!!

Doing your Quiet Time, meditate on Psalm 33 and Psalm 148 and with the fruit of your lips praise God just because!

Job is a delightful story filled with action! In this story, there’s a great meeting in Heaven. There’s the Holy God, angels, a good guy whose name is Job, and his family. Of course, every great story has to have a villain who antagonizes, causes trouble and turmoil for the good guy.
As with any great story, there are great characters and a great plot. This story opens up describing Job’s bountiful and obedient life. Job’s story is jam-packed with blessings and favor from God, with riches and honor. On the other hand, this great story is also filled with great sadness, terrible sickness, agonizing pain, loneliness, loss, and even death.
In your Quiet Time, read the story of Job. It’s a real page turner!
One day the members of the heavenly court came to present themselves before the LORD, and the Accuser, Satan, came with them. “Where have you come from?” the LORD asked Satan. Satan answered the LORD, “I have been patrolling the earth, watching everything that’s going on.”
Then the LORD asked Satan, “Have you noticed my servant Job? He is the finest man in all the earth. He is blameless-a man of complete integrity. He fears God and stays away from evil.”
Satan replied to the LORD, “Yes, but Job has good reason to fear God. You have always put a wall of protection around him and his home and his property. You have made him prosper in everything he does. Look how rich he is! But reach out and take away everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face!”
“All right, you may test him,” the LORD said to Satan. “Do whatever you want with everything he possesses, but don’t harm him physically.” So Satan left the LORD’s presence.”
(Job 1:6-12, NLT)
Job’s story – a true story indeed – offers awesome principles to the Believer. Below are a few Biblical truths we can pull out from today’s passage.
  1. God pours out His favor and places a hedge of protection around those who reverence (fear) Him, stay away from evil, live a life of integrity, and a life of worship. God’s favor on Job made him the richest man in Uz (Job 1:3b; Ps. 1:1-3).
  2. Satan cannot penetrate God’s hedge of protection (Job 1:9-11).
  3. Satan goes to and fro seeking whom he may devour (Job 1:7; 1 Pet.5:8). And he wants to devour you.
  4. Satan recognizes the favor of the Lord that rests upon you (Job 1:8-11).
  5. Satan cannot come near you unless he asks permission from God. He cannot test you without God authorization (Job 1:8-11).
  6. Satan wants to separate you from the Lord (Job 1:8-11; Luke 22:31).
  7. Sometimes, God test Believers and, sometimes, God allows Satan to cause havoc in a Believer’s life (Job 1:8; Ps. 11:4-5).
  8. God has confidence in you, just as He had confidence in Job. After the testing, God will allow you to come out as pure gold (Job 23:10; Ps. 11:5; Ps. 66:10-12)!
  9. God allows trouble, adversities, and hardship to fall on the just and the unjust (Job 1:1-22; Matt. 5:45).
With all the testing that Job went through, the good news is, in the end, he passed the test! As a reward, God gave Job double for his trouble (Job 42:10). Hallelujah!
Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. Instead, be very glad-for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world. (1 Pet.4:12-13, NLT)
It’s Monday…..Already! My sister, our challenge for today is this: Live under the umbrella of God’s favor by living a life of integrity. Reverence God, worship Him, and run from evil. Like Job, when trouble comes our way, may we be able to pass the test!
Having faith in God, we can say, “But he knows where I am going. And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold!” (Job 23:10, NLT)
