Bringing Hope

The Pillar of Hope Community Development Center

Serving the Community by Impacting one Family at a Time

How do you respond when life happens? What do you do when your world is turned upside down? Well, for some of us, we turn to those things that we think will ease the pain. It’s our way of coping with our problems. We turn to drugs. We start drinking. We turn to bad relationships. In desperation, we start making bad decisions. Some of us try to run away from the problem, while others try to deal with it alone. When life happens, we get depressed, devastated by the news, and even feel hopeless. If we don’t deal with adversities properly, with support and encouragement from others, we end up making matters worse. This can and will affect our families, our communities, our cities, and this world.

Hi. My name is Rhovonda Brown and I am honored to be the president and CEO of The Pillar of Hope, Inc. I am the executive director of The Pillar of Hope Community Development Center (TPOHCDC) that will be planted in my hometown, Houston Texas. I was born and raised in Houston where I lived most of my life in Trinity Garden. I have experienced many challenges and misfortunes: being a victim of child abuse, witnessing the murder of my mother and the sudden death of my grandmother, and losing my oldest brother to AIDS. I have battled with alcohol, insecurities, self-esteem, depression, loneliness, to say the least.

My journey has not always been easy nor pretty; yet, through it all, I have found hope and strength to overcome. Right now, I’m working on a huge project that will allow me to help others find hope and strength to overcome whatever battle they may face.

The Pillar of Hope Community Development Center will bring encouragement, support, and hope to a needy community. This project is epic, so great that I cannot do it alone. I need your support. Will you help me?

“At the end of the day, it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished. It’s about who you’ve lifted up. Who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back.” – DENZEL WASHINGTON

Help bring hope to the teenager who is being physically and sexually abused. Bring hope to the son who has lost his way to peer pressure, drugs and alcohol.  Let’s bring hope to the mother who just received the awful news that her baby was killed by a drunk driver. The Pillar of Hope will provide Life Skills education that will guide families through challenging times.

Help bring hope to a father who is unable provide food for his family. The Pillar of Hope will offer a food pantry that will distribute nonperishable food items once a month to those in need.

I know you’re wondering, how in the world can you help. Well, you can! You and I can bring hope to a community that truly needs it.

“You can’t have a perfect day without doing something for someone who’ll never be able to repay you.” – JOHN WOODEN

The Pillar of Hope is a monumental and massive project that I’m undertaking. I really need your support to help make a lasting impact and difference in the community. I cannot do it on my own, but we can do exceptional things together! Help The Pillar of Hope serve and bring hope to a community by impacting one family at a time.

“One person can make a difference, and everyone should try.” – JOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY

I have divided up this project into nine phases (see below) to give you details of our progress as well as opportunities for you to donate to this project. The Pillar of Hope appreciate your support. We are thrilled that you and our team get to make world of difference for the community, and ultimately, making an impact in one family at a time.

“No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave.” – CALVIN COOLIDGE
