Memorial Day is more than a holiday, a long weekend, or the unofficial beginning of summer. It is a sacred reminder of the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Today, we pause to remember their sacrifice, honor their courage, and reflect on the freedoms we enjoy because of them.
There is something humbling about knowing that so many families carry the weight of loss because someone they loved chose to serve others with honor and bravery. Behind every American flag waving today is a story. Behind every moment of freedom is sacrifice.
As we gather with family and friends, enjoy food, laughter, and time together, may we not forget the true meaning of this day. Let us take a moment to pray for the families whose hearts still grieve. Let us teach our children the importance of gratitude, honor, compassion, and service. Let us remember those who never made it home.
Scripture reminds us in John 15:13:
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
What a powerful picture of sacrifice and selflessness.
Memorial Day also reminds us not to take freedom, faith, family, or life for granted. Every day is a gift. Every opportunity to love, encourage, serve, and walk in purpose matters.
Those same themes of gratitude, healing, faith, and walking in freedom are also at the heart of the devotionals, books, and resources I share to encourage women in their everyday lives. My prayer is always to inspire others to live intentionally, trust God fully, and embrace the freedom we have in Christ.

Memorial Day is also about teaching the next generation values like honor, gratitude, compassion, and love. One of the reasons I write children’s books is because I believe the lessons we teach children today help shape the adults they become tomorrow. The conversations we have, the examples we set, and the values we model matter.
Today, may our hearts be filled with gratitude.
May we honor those who served with courage.
May we never forget the cost of freedom.
Now, let’s walk in freedom together!
Your Sis,
Rhovonda
