December 31st is a day of reflection. A day when we think about how quickly the end of the year came. We look back at all the things we did and did not do. Reminisce over the twelve months and survey what we accomplished and did not. We celebrate the times we were courageous and condemn ourselves for the moments we cowardly caved into our fears. We radiate a smile as we think about those new relationships we created and cheer for walking away from toxic ones.
We inhale and exhale a sigh of relief for what was lost and what was gained.
But before we get lost in reflecting over the past year, let’s ponder on this beautiful fact: we made it!
December 31st is a testament that we are still here through it all. We are warriors and gladiators! We are strong and powerful! We are champions!
We made it through the entire year through life’s journey, the ups and downs, the good, bad, and the ugly. We may have some bumps and bruises, some scars, some near-death experiences, setbacks, knocks outs and knockdowns. But look. We are still here, and it’s ONLY by the grace of God. It was His will that we would see today.
Some of us may be crawling, sitting, or barely standing. The fact still remains. We are here! We made it to the last day of 2021.
None of us knows what will happen tomorrow. No one knows if we will see another day. We do not have any idea what 2022 has in store for us. However, what we do know is this. If the Lord allows us to see tomorrow, come what may, He will see us through. No matter what, God is THE ONLY SURE THING that we can place ALL of our hopes, dreams, trust, and future upon. The Maker of heaven and earth, Jehovah. The life-giver, sustainer, peace-giver, and Savior, Jesus Christ, holds our world in His hands. Without Him, you and I can do NOTHING. We cease to exist.
“Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see— such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together. Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything.”Colossians 1:15-18
December 31st has arrived. You made it, sis. It may not have been a perfect year. It may not have gone the way we planned it. It may not look like great things happened. But they did!
Our Creator, God, chose you to see today. He made a wise decision to select you to live 365 days to be a witness for Him. God wants you and me to be His vessels and mouthpieces to shout to the world that by the grace of God, we are still here! He has mercifully granted us time. We have a little more time. Now, beloved, what will you do with it?
On today, how will we show our gratitude and love and praise to the Lord who has blessed us to enjoy December 31st? Remember, He decided to let us see this day.
As we reflect on all that came to pass this year, at the end of our reflection, let’s seal it with a whole lot of thank-yous, rejoicing, and celebration unto the Lord. Why? Because He saw fit to let you and I see this day.
Go ahead and reflect. Give thanks, and rejoice in Lord for all He has done. Then, seek Him to give you the answer to this question. Why am I still here? Why did you allow me to see December 31st? I promise you that God will, indeed, respond with a great answer.
This is my last devotional of the year. While you are reflecting, go back and reread some of my devotionals that encouraged you the most. I pray it brings you peace and motivates you to live hopeful and free in Christ.
Happy New Year! May 2022 be the year we walk and live in our purpose, fully, completely, unashamed and uninhabited, unapologetically and freely!
Now, let’s walk in freedom together!
