The Bible is filled with a plethora of stories to encourage the fainthearted. We’re given stories, true stories of God’s faithfulness. We read stories about God displaying His unfailing love to His children. There’s a story, in particular, that can be an encouragement to everyone no matter what season we may find ourselves in.
But Jesus said, “You feed them.”
“But we have only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered. “Or are you expecting us to go and buy enough food for this whole crowd?” For there were about 5,000 men there. (Luke 9:13-14a, NLT)
Here’s a beautiful story of Jesus taking something small, insignificant, and making it more than enough. In John chapter six, we’re told that the 2 fish and five loaves of bread were obtained from a young boy who happened to be at the right place at the right time. The Bible doesn’t give us any background on this little boy. We don’t know who the lad came with, but we’re told this:
Then Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up. “There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?” (John 6:8-9, NLT)
