Life’s Storms

No matter what I’m experiencing in life and how hard my emotions are trying to get the best of me, I can always find comfort in the Word of God. John 14:1 is such an on-time message that rests my weary soul. It is a beautiful passage of Scripture. Whenever I read it and meditate on it throughout the day, my spirit is uplifted and I am filled with so much peace.

God commands us in His Word to fear not, don’t crack under pressure, don’t cave in to our worries, and what we see around us. Whatever it is that has us agitated and distracted and afraid, our Father commands us to fear not. Trust confidently in Him.

You know what? Storms have a way of making me do an introspection of my trust level for God. Would you agree? Challenges reveal to me just how much I truly have faith in Him. Either I’m going to trust Him completely or I’m not. My faith and trust level must remain strong, if not stronger during adversities. I don’t want to trust God only when life is going good. In the good times, I say all the right words, praising Him for His goodness. But when storms arise, it seems like I forget what I know about God and His Word.

We must decide whether we’re going to immediately turn to God and trust His sovereignty and His plan or panic and let our emotions take charge while relying on our own abilities. Oftentimes, I do the latter. Even though there are times when I struggle with trusting God, the Holy Spirit convicts me. He gently points me back to the Father and comforts me through the storm. I praise God for His tender mercy and sweet grace!

Even though we may struggle with trusting God completely and being faithful to Him, He doesn’t stop being faithful and merciful to us. What a loving God we serve!

Has life happened? Are you in a storm, struggling to trust God? Are you surrendering to your fears, anxieties, and emotions? What distractions are pulling your attention away from God?

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

John 14:27 NKJV

May I encourage you today with a gently reminder? Turn your eyes (thoughts) back to our wonderful Savior, Jesus Christ. He wants us to trust Him. Even if you have some doubts and running on a little faith, keep looking at Him (Mark 9:24). Don’t let your fears or doubts pull your attention away from God. Beloved, I’m praying that you will read, meditate on, and speak God’s Word —specifically John 14:1. Pray His Words over your life today. Then, allow His perfect peace to surround you and fill your heart.

“DO NOT let your hearts be troubled (distressed, agitated). You believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely on God; believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely also on Me.”

John 14:1, AMPC
