Our Identity

Wow! I made it to 53! If you could see me do my happy dance, I know you would dance for joy with me. What a wonderful day to be alive! It is a blessing and sheer delight to see another year. I wasn’t supposed to be here. I didn’t think I would be here. But I am and its by the grace of God!

I’m excited to be a vessel for God. It is a privilege to serve Him with my life and I’m honored that He chose me. And guess what, sis. God has chosen you to be His vessel. He has called you to walk in freedom and bold in your calling. You hear me? Doing what God has called us to do is such a reward feeling that each day we should wake up with a smile on our faces saying, What’s next, God?

I found this beautiful quote by Maya Angelou. Do you agree with this quote? I do. If you don’t know who you are, you cannot be your true self. If we do not know who we are, we can’t be free. Our identity is wrapped up in our Creator and Savior Jesus Christ.

God has given me a passion to encourage His daughters to point them to Christ so they may come into the full knowledge of our Creator, know their identity, live their purpose, and walk in freedom. Why did God give me this assignment? Because I know what it is like to not know your purpose. I have been in a dark place asking the same questions, Who am I? Why am I here? Why did You make me? Do I have a purpose?

“When I was a little girl and even in my young adult years, I wanted to know who I was and why I did exist. Yes, I knew my name and my parents’ name, but I really didn’t know who I was.”

– Rhovonda L. Brown. Walking in Freedom!: A Thirty-Day Devotional Journey for Women (pp. 38-40). iUniverse. Kindle Edition.

It is a lonely and frustrating place to be. Here’s how those questions can be answered though. We learn our identity when we spend time with our Savior. When we get to know Him. Without knowing Him, we can not know who we are or why we exist.

“It wasn’t until I was in my mid-thirties that I finally knew who I was. I finally understood my purpose. And my goodness. I felt like I had been a caged bird, finally being released and set free. I was able to learn who I was and what my purpose was by spending time with God.”

– Rhovonda L. Brown. Walking in Freedom!: A Thirty-Day Devotional Journey for Women (pp. 38-40). iUniverse. Kindle Edition.

Dear friend, do you know who you are? What is your purpose? Are you living each day walking and fulfilling your calling? Are you giving glory to God through your life?

Could it be that not knowing your purpose is holding you back from doing some amazing things? Is it possible that the lack of understanding your purpose is why you struggle to move forward and enjoy life?

“God called us and chose us before we were born” (Gal. 1: 15, NLT).

I want to encourage you to use today’s scripture as your guide to hearing the voice of the Lord. He has called you to do something incredible for Him. If you don’t know, it is time to know who you are and begin walking freely in your purpose.

Now, let’s walk in freedom together.

Your sis,

Rhovonda
